My friend and I were on my ex-boyfriend's boat - we were fishing for sharks. Our first catch was a huge flounder. I knew it was too big to keep, but we just had to get it up on the boat for a photo. It must have been 36" across! After I took the picture, I looked at my girlfriend and said "How are we going to get the hook out of its mouth?" My ex-boyfriend or other men in my life always took the hooks out whenever I caught a fish. The idea of ripping up the inside of a fish's gut or mouth is horrible to me. Luckily, the flounder saw our dilemma and spit the hook out on the deck of the boat. What a great fish!
Just as we heaved the huge fish back into the sea, we caught the object of our quest - a shark. I don't know enough about sharks to know what kind it was, I just knew it was one. It too was accommodating. Instead of making me fight for it, it jumped out of the water right into the boat. I started screaming at the thought of the shark thrashing around our legs with its sharp teeth and all of a sudden I realized it had turned into a dog. A sopping wet, bedraggled dog that was grateful that it was no longer shark bait!
We wrapped it in a blanket and headed for shore to find its home. The last thing I remember is that we were knocking on the door of the first cottage we found and the dog was sitting at the end of the pier, looking out to sea as if it wasn't sure whether it should be on land.

I know this dream can be analyzed because I recently broke up with my boyfriend and one of the things he had wanted us to do this spring, in fact in April, was to go shark fishing. I wasn't looking forward to this event, and I am somewhat relieved that I will not have to go, now that we aren't together.
I rarely remember my dreams, but this one occurred today, after I came home from an outpatient procedure that required anesthesia. It was so bizarre that I thought I would start trying to come to grips with my new role as a woman alone .... again.... with this blog. Hopefully putting my thoughts and feelings into print will be therapeutic and allow me to grow and put this recent relationship behind me.
